I specialize in helping with adjustment, transitions, chronic illness, grief, family issues, depression, anxiety, relationships, trauma and issues specific to men and women. I also welcome any other concerns you may have. Together, we'll decide what to focus on in therapy. My approach is inclusive and values diversity.
Change is a certainty in life. Therapy can assist you in learning new ways of thinking, practice positive behaviors and take active steps to cope with the challenges and changes you face.
Depression and Anxiety are some of the most common mental health concerns. Symptoms of depression and/or anxiety can significantly impact your quality of life. Therapy can provide a supportive environment that can help you identify stressors, triggers and thought patterns that contribute to and worsen depression and anxiety.
Preventing and managing chronic stress can lower your risk for serious health conditions like heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure and depression. Trauma is a specific form of stress that can have long lasting impacts. Trauma survivors may develop emotional issues such as extreme anxiety, anger, sadness, guilt/shame or post-traumatic stress disorder.
My practice is affirming of the array of sexual orientations and gender identities to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, pansexual, heterosexual or however an individual chooses to identify.
Grief is a natural emotional response to loss. While it is a natural response, grief can become complicated and prolonged due to a variety of issues. I offer grief therapy services that promote healing and the integration and honoring of the loss to help my client move forward.
I respect our veterans for their sacrifice and service and offer therapy services that address veteran issues related to adjustment, trauma, anxiety and depression that can result from the stress of military service. My skills in this area were enhanced through my work as an intern and later a staff psychologist at VA Medical Centers in Nashville and Atlanta. I am currently contracted with an agency to conduct veteran disability exams to determine service-connected mental health conditions.
I provide supportive psychotherapy services to residents of Assisted Living Facilities as well as consultation to staff of longterm care facilities. Placement in a longterm care facility is a particularly stressful event for the resident and family. I work to support the resident with the grief, loss and adjustment of such a change as well as provide support to family members of the resident which can include caregiver stress/burnout.
Chronic illness/health decline is a very real form of stress that can lead to significant depression and/or anxiety. I provide therapy services to clients dealing with the multitude of feelings and changes that can accompany a medical issue.
